Carol Ann Lee wrote about the Frank family for years, including a biography of Anne Frank and The Hidden Life of Otto Frank, before turning to a case nearer home. Somebody's Mother, Somebody's Daughter takes the thirteen women Peter Sutcliffe killed in Yorkshire and the north-west between 1975 and 1980, along with the women who survived him, and gives each of them a life rather than a place in a sequence. It is built on interviews with families and survivors and on material not published before. Two things run through it: how the press of the day sorted the women into innocent and otherwise, and how West Yorkshire Police mishandled an inquiry that had interviewed Sutcliffe nine times before he was arrested. Twenty-three children were left without mothers. Michael O'Mara published it in 2019.
