Caroline Adderson

Caroline Adderson is a Canadian novelist and short-story writer whose books range from literary fiction to lively work for younger readers. A Simple Case of Angels, published by Groundwood Books in 2014, follows Nicola and her friend June Bug after Nicola's mother enters a nursing home following a serious accident. The girls notice unusual residents and begin to suspect that some are being confined against their will. Adderson blends a realistic account of family disruption and institutional life with a gently suggested angelic element, keeping the emphasis on empathy and action. Her books include Bad Imaginings, Sitting Practice, The Sky Is Falling, and A Russian Sister, while her children's work includes the Jasper John Dooley and Izzy series. She studied education and creative writing through the University of British Columbia and later taught writing at Simon Fraser University. A Simple Case of Angels shows how her precise characterization adapts to middle-grade fiction without avoiding grief, vulnerability, or moral responsibility.
