Caroline Pignat is an Irish Canadian novelist, teacher, and writer for younger readers whose historical fiction often follows families through migration, conflict, and settlement. Wild Geese is the sequel to Greener Grass and continues the story of Kit and Mick after the Great Famine forces them away from Ireland. The novel follows their Atlantic crossing and adjustment to life in Canada, extending the Byrne family narrative into a new landscape while retaining the emotional consequences of displacement. Pignat later continued the sequence with Timber Wolf, set in the Canadian wilderness. Her first published novel, Egghead, addressed bullying in a contemporary school setting, while later books used diaries, multiple voices, and verse to explore memory and perspective. As an English teacher, she has also worked directly with student writers. Wild Geese shows the historical side of her bibliography and links Irish emigration to the practical challenges of building a life in nineteenth-century Canada.
