Carrie Hintz studies literature for young readers through its history, forms, audiences, and cultural debates. Reading Children’s Literature, written with Eric L. Tribunella, is designed as a critical introduction for students working across fiction, poetry, fairy tales, picture books, nonfiction, fantasy, and visual media. The first edition appeared through Bedford/St. Martin's in 2013, and Broadview Press published an expanded second edition in 2019. That revision adds material on popular culture, racialization, disability, and the practical questions involved in selecting and interpreting works for young readers. Hintz also teaches English at Queens College and the CUNY Graduate Center, and her Routledge introduction to Children's Literature places the field within global history, politics, theory, and environmental criticism. Together, these books show an academic career focused on how literature imagines childhood and how readers evaluate the assumptions carried by familiar genres.
