Carrie Talick

Carrie Talick draws on friendship, reinvention, and life around the water in her fiction. A former advertising copywriter, she made Beware the Mermaids her debut novel with Alcove Press in 2021. It follows Nancy Hadley and a close circle of women whose long friendship is tested by betrayal, marriage, and a high-stakes sailing challenge. The book shifts attention toward women in midlife, presenting their loyalty and accumulated experience as sources of momentum rather than background detail. Talick was born in Michigan and later based her career in Los Angeles, where her advertising work included nationally recognized campaigns. That professional background informs the novel's brisk dialogue and sharply observed group dynamics. Beware the Mermaids places an adventurous yacht race beside domestic upheaval, using the Mermaids' shared history to explore accountability, chosen family, and the possibility of beginning again after carefully laid plans break apart.
