Chantry Dawes
Chantry Dawes develops historical courtships shaped by country estates, wartime aftermath, and characters whose practical skills challenge social expectations. Thoroughly Captivated is the third Aldbey Park novel and follows Captain Warwick, Baron of Graestone, after he returns from war burdened by the people and horses he could not save. He opens Castle Graestone to injured former soldiers, turning the estate into a place of recovery. Lulu Darley arrives to care for a badly hurt stallion, and her success gives her a reason to remain despite Warwick's initial objections. Set in 1812, the story places their developing bond beside questions of guilt, healing, useful work, and the unconventional household gathered at the castle. Bibliographic records position it after Thoroughly in Love and Thoroughly Besotted, with Thoroughly Seduced following later. Dawes uses the Aldbey Park connections to deepen the background, and lets Warwick and Lulu’s shared concern for damaged lives give this installment its own emotional center.
