Charity Alyse brings questions of race, neighborhood boundaries, art, and first love into fiction for teenagers. Her 2022 debut, Other Side of the Tracks, came from Denene Millner Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers. The story moves among Capri, Justin, and Zach, teenagers from the divided towns of Bayside and Hamilton. Their lives converge through music, dance, and a local response to the police shooting of a Black student, with each viewpoint revealing different pressures within the same conflict. Alyse studied English literature at Rowan University and later pursued training in clinical mental health therapy. That background complements the novel’s attention to voice and emotional consequence without reducing its characters to positions in a debate. Other Side of the Tracks combines romance and social tension through three narrators, showing how inherited divisions can shape choices while creative collaboration offers a different way to be heard.
