Shakespeare for Squirrels (2020) drops Pocket of Dog Snogging, the jester from Fool and The Serpent of Venice, onto a Greek shore and straight into A Midsummer Night's Dream. A duke wants him dead, a fairy king will save him only if he works out who killed a sprite, and his apprentice Drool and a monkey named Jeff are no help at all. It is the third Pocket book, and it shows Christopher Moore's habit of taking a canonical text and playing it for farce without letting go of the plot. Moore was born on 1 January 1957 in Toledo, Ohio, grew up in Mansfield, and studied at Ohio State University and the Brooks Institute of Photography. Practical Demonkeeping, his first novel, came in 1992. Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal remains his most widely read book. He has also written a vampire trilogy opening with Bloodsucking Fiends and the Death Merchant novels that begin with A Dirty Job. San Francisco has been home for many years.
