Claire Anders is an Edinburgh-based novelist who creates historical and contemporary fiction centered on resilient women, friendship, and communities under pressure. Between Moons is her debut novel and the opening book in the Women in War sequence. Set in occupied France, it follows journalist Marlene Villeret after she parachutes into the country with instructions to observe life in Paris and leave at the next full moon. Witnessing families torn from their homes pushes her beyond that limited assignment, while her connection with a German soldier complicates loyalty, trust, and survival. Anders presents the occupation through a protagonist trained to notice and record, making journalism part of both the plot and its moral tension. The later Women in War novels broaden the series to other women and wartime roles, but Between Moons establishes its interest in danger, secrecy, and difficult alliances. Anders’s own book page identifies the novel as Second World War historical fiction, and Fantastic Fiction dates its first publication to 2021.
