Trained in law and previously a traditionally published writer for teenagers, Cora Reilly has built a large independent crime romance catalogue while living in Germany with her family and a Bearded Collie. The Born in Blood Mafia Chronicles set her pattern: arranged marriages between the children of Chicago crime families, worked through Bound by Duty, Bound by Hatred, Bound by Temptation, Bound by Vengeance and Bound By Blood. Luca Vitiello and Sweet Temptation retell earlier instalments from a different character's point of view, a format she has returned to more than once. Fragile Longing pairs a much older man with the younger sister of the woman he expected to marry. Dangerous Innocence opens the Five-Leaf Clover books about five Irish American brothers in New York, and By Sin I Rise: Part Two closes a story told across two volumes. Only Work, No Play, from 2019, steps outside the crime families into sports romance. She writes directly in English rather than being translated from German.
