Craig Challen brought veterinary training and extensive cave-diving experience to the 2018 Tham Luang rescue in Thailand. He worked beside anaesthetist and cave diver Richard Harris; both were named joint 2019 Australians of the Year. Challen and Harris co-wrote Against All Odds: The inside account of the Thai cave rescue and the courageous Australians at the heart of it, first published in 2019. James Cameron contributed the foreword. Their book records the international operation, the flooded passages, and the decisions the rescue team faced while bringing the young players and their coach out of the cave.
