D.E.L. Connor brings nursing education and a Montana childhood into her fantasy writing for teens. Her fiction grew from a college short story, and she has also worked as an assistant professor in Texas. The Concealing begins the Spirit Warriors series, first published by Booktrope in 2013. Its teenage friends can move their spirits into animal bodies, linking a contemporary developmental story with supernatural abilities, friendship, romance, and a Montana setting. Emme Belrose, Charlie, and their companions must understand those powers while facing a threat that Charlie foresees. Connor planned the sequence as a multi-volume story, and The Scarring followed as its second installment. The opening book combines science fiction, fantasy, and storytelling for teen readers through its ensemble of teenage characters and animal transformations. The Concealing therefore represents both Connor’s debut and the narrative foundation for the wider Spirit Warriors arc.
