Black is a forensic anthropologist who led the British team into Kosovo in 1999 to exhume mass graves and give evidence to the international tribunal, and has worked since on the Asian tsunami and on identifying abusers from the anatomy of their hands in child abuse prosecutions, a technique she developed. All That Remains is a book about death written by somebody who takes bodies apart for a living and declines to be morbid about it. She has run anatomy departments at Dundee and Lancaster, sits in the House of Lords, and campaigns about how few bodies are donated for teaching.
