Don't Burn This Book: Thinking for Yourself in an Age of Unreason came from Sentinel, the conservative imprint at Penguin, in April 2020, and reached the bestseller lists. Its argument is autobiographical: Dave Rubin presents himself as a former progressive who found the left intolerant of dissent and moved right, and offers the reader a set of rules for holding unpopular opinions. Rubin began in stand-up comedy and at The Young Turks, then started The Rubin Report in 2013, which became a long-form interview show with a mostly conservative and libertarian guest list. Critics of the programme, including some who have appeared on it, say the interviews rarely push back and that the format lets contested claims stand unexamined. He is married to Dave Janet, is Jewish and gay, and has said both facts complicate the audience's expectations of him.
