Todd, identifies the Observatory as publisher, and describes fourteen pages with plates. The text prepared observers for the total eclipse of January 1, 1889, covering timing, recording location, making drawings, and photographing the corona. It asked participants to preserve notes and send observations to Todd at Amherst College Observatory. Rather than presenting eclipse watching as spectacle alone, the booklet shows Todd organizing observers into a coordinated scientific effort.
