Deborah Vogts
Deborah Vogts writes contemporary inspirational romance shaped by the Kansas Flint Hills. Snow Melts in Spring opens her Seasons of the Tallgrass series, published by Zondervan in 2009. Its central characters are Mattie Evans, a rural veterinarian trying to establish her practice, and Gil McCray, a professional football player estranged from his family's ranch. An injured horse draws Mattie into the McCrays' conflict, connecting the romance to questions of home, forgiveness, and stewardship of the prairie. Vogts grew up on a farm in southeast Kansas and studied English and journalism at Emporia State University. She identifies Seeds of Summer as the second Tallgrass volume, continuing a series designed around the region's ranches, communities, and changing seasons.
