Derek Sivers
1969
Built CD Baby in the late nineties almost by accident, as a way to sell his own music, and it became the largest seller of independent music online before he sold it in 2008 and put the proceeds into a charitable trust for music education.
Anything You Want is fifty short chapters on what he learned, and it argues against growth as a goal: the company was profitable, small and deliberately capped.
Sivers writes very short books, rewrites them obsessively, and has published his own life philosophy in a form that invites disagreement rather than adoption.
