Diana Clarke, a New Zealander, teaches creative writing at Canberra, having taken an MFA at Purdue with Roxane Gay as her thesis adviser and a doctorate at Utah. Her first novel, Thin Girls, published by Harper in 2020, turns on twin sisters, Rose and Lily Winters, whose bond runs so close that each seems to feel what the other feels. Rose is nearing a year inside a rehabilitation facility for anorexia; Lily teaches kindergarten and has fallen in with a diet group that behaves like a cult, and Rose sets out to pull her back. Clarke's shorter fiction has run in Glimmer Train, Black Warrior Review, The Rumpus and Hobart. A second novel, The Hop, followed from Harper in 2022, the year she held the writer-in-residence post at Waikato.
