Dramingo was the name Ernest Favenc used for A Romance of Kangaroo Point, an early piece of Australian colonial fiction. First published in the Queensland press in 1876, the story moves through Brisbane society and the riverside district named in its title. Its mistaken identities, courtship complications, and observations of local manners give the work the shape of a comic social romance. Favenc later became better known as an explorer, journalist, and writer of Australian adventure stories, travel accounts, and historical sketches. His expeditions across northern and western Australia supplied material for books concerned with geography and settlement, while his fiction frequently turned colonial places into active parts of the narrative. This story belongs to his earlier writing and preserves a view of Brisbane before the city reached its later scale. The Dramingo attribution matters because it links the newspaper work to Favenc's broader career without replacing the name under which it originally appeared.
