Efraim Karsh

Efraim Karsh is a historian of the modern Middle East and professor emeritus of Middle East and Mediterranean Studies at King's College London. Yale University Press published Palestine Betrayed, his study of the end of the British Mandate, the 1947 partition resolution, and the conflict surrounding Israel's creation. The publisher describes a work based on declassified Western, Soviet, United Nations, and Israeli documents alongside Arabic sources. Karsh advances a distinct argument about decisions made by Palestinian Arab leaders, so the book belongs within an active historical debate rather than serving as a neutral chronology. His broader scholarship includes Islamic Imperialism and studies of the Arab-Israeli conflict.
