Eli Evron
Eli Evron is an Israeli writer of espionage fiction whose academic and professional background informs his portrayals of intelligence work. The Rome Assignment follows Mossad station chief Ben Gal as an Iranian source, a long-sought wartime criminal, stolen art, and a threatened European city draw together. Grace Michaeli translated the novel from Hebrew, and its English edition appeared in 2023. Evron was born in Jerusalem, studied Islamic and Middle Eastern studies, geography, and law, and spent many years in the Israeli intelligence community before retiring as a senior officer. His experience handling agents gives his novels an interest in relationships and judgment as well as operations. His other English-language thriller, Triple Strike, continues his focus on covert institutions and the human costs of secrecy. The Rome Assignment sets its intersecting plot in Rome and against the contemporary regional rivalry around Iran, while a second historical thread reaches back into Europe's past.
