The Southern Shifters books, a paranormal romance world of wolves, dragons, fae and witches, are Eliza Gayle's best known work, and Amazon later opened that setting as a Kindle Worlds licence so other writers could publish stories in it. She began publishing in 2007, after a first career a long way from fiction: she served in the Marine Corps, then spent more than ten years managing corporate retirement plans in North Carolina, and she holds a degree in human resources management and sociology from Park University. Roped starts the contemporary Purgatory Club series, Levi's Ultimatum belongs to the linked Purgatory Masters books, and Play With Me, first published in 2010 as Midnight Playground, opens the Pleasure Playground line. Darker contemporary romance appears under her other name, E.M. Gayle.
