Olive appeared from HarperCollins in June 2020 and set a London journalist who is certain she does not want children against three university friends whose lives run the other way: Bea has three children, Cecily is pregnant with her first, and Isla cannot conceive. It was Emma Gannon's first novel, and it went on to a Dublin Literary Award longlisting and a television option. Gannon reached fiction sideways. She wrote for The Sunday Times, Condé Nast titles and The Debrief, signed her first book deal in 2016, and ran the interview podcast Ctrl Alt Delete from 2016 to 2023, with guests including Elizabeth Gilbert, Lena Dunham and Gillian Anderson. Her non-fiction includes The Multi-Hyphen Method (2018), on building a working life out of several part-time strands, The Success Myth (2023) and A Year of Nothing (2024). She judged the Women's Prize for Non-Fiction in 2025.
