Emma Thompson is a British actor, screenwriter, producer, and author whose work on Nanny McPhee joins performance with children's storytelling. Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang is her novel based on the second film, moving the magical nanny to the Green family's wartime farm. Bloomsbury describes the book as both an adventure and an unusually revealing account of how a film takes shape, with production mishaps woven into the narrative. Thompson wrote the screenplay, played Nanny McPhee, and served as an executive producer on the film released in North America as Nanny McPhee Returns. The character grew from Christianna Brand's Nurse Matilda stories, which Thompson adapted into a new screen and book sequence.
