Finley Peter Dunne

Finley Peter Dunne (1867-1936) was an American humorist and newspaperman who spent his early career in Chicago journalism. He created Mr. Dooley, the philosophical Irish saloon keeper whose dialect commentaries on politics and public life became a syndicated sensation in the 1890s. Widely quoted in his day, Dunne used the character to satirize presidents, generals, and reformers with a bluntness few writers could risk in their own voice.
