Henry Gilbert
Henry Gilbert (1868–1937) was an English author who made his name retelling legend and history for young readers. Besides King Arthur's Knights, he wrote Robin Hood and the Men of the Greenwood (1912), often described as the first significant modern reworking of that story, along with The Book of Pirates and volumes retelling Prescott on the conquerors of Mexico and Peru. His retellings were praised for their handling of historical detail as much as their storytelling, and they have stayed in print for over a century.
