Author: Howard S. Friedman
Howard S. Friedman’s work as a health psychologist examines personality, social relationships, and long-term well-being. With psychologist Leslie R. Martin, he coauthored The Longevity Project, first published in 2011. The book revisits data from a study begun by psychologist Lewis Terman in 1921 and follows patterns recorded across eight decades. Friedman and Martin used those records to investigate how traits, work lives, social ties, and life paths related to participants’ health and longevity. Friedman’s academic career at UC Riverside included research and teaching in personality and health psychology. The Longevity Project presents the collaborators’ findings for a general audience while retaining the study’s unusually long historical span.
