Author: J. A. Baker
John Alec Baker (6 August 1926 – 26 December 1987) was an English author, best known for his remarkable work “The Peregrine”, which earned him the prestigious Duff Cooper Prize in 1967. He meticulously documented his observations of birds in the Essex countryside, cycling from Chelmsford to the coast. Baker’s arthritis and health challenges didn’t deter his passion for observing nature. His condensed observations from 1955–1965 during the Big Freeze winter resulted in this timeless work. “The Peregrine” remains a testament to Baker’s deep connection with the natural world, inspiring readers and filmmakers alike.
