J. M. Miro

J. M. Miro is a byline rather than a person. Behind it stands Steven Price, a Canadian poet and novelist shortlisted for the Giller as himself, who took a different name for Ordinary Monsters because it is a deliberately different kind of book: very long, Victorian, and full of damaged children with dangerous talents collected at an institute in Scotland by people whose motives take three volumes to establish. He has said the name is a signal about what the reader is getting rather than an attempt to hide.
