Author: James Green

James Green was a Worcester, Massachusetts lawyer and historical writer whose short publications grew from papers delivered before the Worcester Society of Antiquity. Causes of the War in South Africa records his June 14, 1900 address, subtitled From the American Lawyer's Standpoint; the society proceedings print Green's name above the paper, while library catalogues identify a second Worcester edition of 28 pages. Personal Recollections of Daniel Henry Chamberlain preserves a different address, read December 3, 1907 and published by Davis & Banister in 1908. Its subject was Chamberlain, the Reconstruction-era governor of South Carolina, rather than a collaborator or co-author. The pamphlet presents Green's personal memories instead of a general political biography. Born in 1841 and active in Worcester legal and antiquarian circles, Green also left family papers now held by the American Antiquarian Society. Across both publications, Green connects public affairs with legal interpretation and historical memory.
