Jeff Gottesfeld

Jeff Gottesfeld writes accessible fiction and nonfiction across picture books, novels, and high-interest series for children. Killer Flood belongs to Saddleback Educational Publishing’s Red Rhino Books, a line designed for upper-elementary readers who benefit from controlled vocabulary without juvenile subject matter. The story centers on Dan and Pete during a severe storm, when a broken dam changes an indoor evening into a dangerous effort to help elderly neighbors. Gottesfeld places courage and practical decision-making inside a concise disaster narrative. The publisher lists the book at a low reading level while identifying its themes as bravery, fiction, and emergency action. Publishers Weekly included Killer Flood among Saddleback’s 2015 Red Rhino releases for readers aged nine to twelve. Gottesfeld has explained that his work for this audience aims to pair accessible language with situations and characters that respect the maturity and varied backgrounds of striving readers.
