Jeff Lindsay

Dexter Morgan works for the Miami police as a blood spatter analyst and kills people in his own time, choosing them by a code his adoptive father taught him so that the appetite would at least be aimed at other killers. Jeff Lindsay published Darkly Dreaming Dexter in 2004, and Showtime turned it into eight seasons from 2006, after which the books and the television series went their separate ways entirely. Lindsay was born Jeffry P. Freundlich in 1952, acted and wrote for the stage, and is married to the novelist Hilary Hemingway, a niece of Ernest Hemingway. He has said the voice arrived first, at a Rotary lunch, and that the difficulty was making a narrator with no feelings sound like company. Seven more Dexter novels followed, and later the Riley Wolfe books about a thief.
