Joel Golby

Golby writes for the Guardian and wrote for Vice before that, mostly about small ridiculous things at unreasonable length: property listings, sandwiches, other people's flats. Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant Brilliant Brilliant is the essay collection, and underneath the jokes are the deaths of both his parents, his mother when he was a child and his father a decade or so later. The switch in tone is the point of the book: the jokes are not a way round the grief, they are how the grief is delivered. He writes about football too, badly and at length, which is the correct way.
