Josiah Henson

Josiah Henson (1789-1883) was an author, abolitionist, and minister who escaped slavery in the United States and settled in Ontario, Canada. There he helped found the Dawn Settlement, a refuge and school for formerly enslaved people. His memoir is thought to have influenced Harriet Beecher Stowe.
