Karah Sutton
Karah Sutton is an American and New Zealand children's writer whose fiction draws on folklore and dance. A former bookseller, she debuted with A Wolf for a Spell, illustrated by Finnish artist Pauliina Hannuniemi. The story brings wolf Zima, the witch Baba Yaga and village girl Nadya together against a threat to their forest, using Russian folk traditions to explore cooperation across old divisions. The book was an ABA Indies Introduce choice, an Indie Next top-ten selection and a Junior Library Guild selection; Bank Street College also named it among its best children's books of 2021. Sutton's second novel, The Song of the Swan, grew from her years as a ballet dancer and again features Hannuniemi's illustrations.
