Kate Albus

A Place to Hang the Moon sends three orphaned children out of London on the evacuation trains of 1940, deliberately unaccompanied, because their grandmother has died and their plan is to find somebody willing to keep them permanently. The billeting they get is bad and the librarian who helps them is the point of the book. Albus worked as a teacher and a school librarian before writing, and the novel is a conscious answer to the tidier evacuation stories she had spent years handing to children.
