Katharine A. Carl

Katharine Augusta Carl (1865-1938) was an American portrait painter trained in Paris. In 1903 she became one of very few Westerners allowed extended access to the Qing court, where she painted Empress Dowager Cixi. That portrait was later shown at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair.
