Leonard Kip was a nineteenth-century American writer associated with New York State, born in 1826 and later dying in Albany in 1906. His work includes fiction, travel writing, and titles connected with military and western subjects. The Ghosts at Grantley dates to 1878 and offers a compact supernatural tale about ancestral visitors whose unfinished concerns draw them back to a family home and its descendants. ReadHowYouWant issued an accessible edition in 2006, but that edition date should not be confused with the work's original publication. The story retains its nineteenth-century framing, while Kip also wrote Hannibal's Man under the same author identity. The Ghosts at Grantley is therefore best understood within an older American tradition of humorous and uncanny family storytelling, not as a contemporary novel created for the modern reprint.
