Mary Seacole

Mary Seacole (1805 to 1881) was a Jamaican-born nurse and businesswoman of Creole and Scottish descent. Skilled in Caribbean herbal medicine, she traveled widely and cared for soldiers during the Crimean War. Long overlooked, she is now celebrated as a pioneering figure in nursing history.
