Michael Buckley writes comic middle-grade fantasy and adventure, most notably the Sisters Grimm and NERDS series. The Inside Story is the eighth Sisters Grimm adventure and was illustrated by Peter Ferguson. It follows Sabrina and Daphne Grimm into the Book of Everafter, where familiar fairy-tale figures repeat their narratives under the control of an Editor and his revisers. The sisters pursue the Master through stories that can be altered from within, making authorship and narrative rules part of the danger. Amulet Books published the series, which concludes with The Council of Mirrors. Buckley also created the Undertow trilogy and Finn and the Intergalactic Lunchbox, extending his interest in young protagonists confronting elaborate secret worlds. The Inside Story occupies a decisive late point in the Sisters Grimm sequence because it turns the family’s work as fairy-tale detectives into a direct struggle over who controls the stories themselves.
