Mike Mearls is a tabletop game designer known for helping shape the fifth edition of Dungeons & Dragons. Dungeon Master’s Guide credits him and Jeremy Crawford as lead designers, with Christopher Perkins and James Wyatt leading the guide and additional designers contributing to the wider rules system. Published by Wizards of the Coast in 2014, the book gives Dungeon Masters tools for building worlds, creating adventures, judging rules, and designing rewards and challenges. In an interview with the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association, Mearls described role-playing design as a process of documenting imaginary worlds clearly enough for groups to make their own stories within them.
