Mindy Thompson
Mindy Thompson writes fantasy for middle-grade readers, often making books and libraries central to the adventure. The Bookshop of Dust and Dreams is set in 1944 at Rhyme and Reason, a magical shop whose visitors arrive from different periods of history. Young Poppy hopes to inherit the bookseller's role, but must defend the rules governing the shop when her brother wants to alter the past. Viking Books for Young Readers issued the novel in 2021. Thompson holds a degree in creative writing and spent ten years working in public and middle-school libraries. She began writing for the students she had known there, a background reflected in her attention to young readers, custodianship, and the idea that stories can offer courage without erasing difficult choices.
