Nawaaz Ahmed is an Indian American novelist whose fiction examines family, faith, migration, and political belonging. Radiant Fugitives, his debut novel, unfolds around an estranged family gathering in San Francisco during the closing days of the Obama presidency. Counterpoint published the book in 2021, and its unusual narrator gives the family's conflicts a reflective, forward-looking frame. Ahmed grew up in Tamil Nadu, studied computer science, and later earned an MFA from the University of Michigan. His transition from a technology career to fiction brought sustained attention to language, structure, and the ways public events enter private relationships. Radiant Fugitives became a finalist for both the PEN/Faulkner Award and the Edmund White Award for Debut Fiction, and it received additional recognition from the Center for Fiction and Aspen Words. Those honors reflect a novel that links intimate family history with questions of citizenship, religious inheritance, and reconciliation.
