Redemption and second chances run through it, as they do through her earlier novels The Hope of Azure Springs, Yours Truly, Thomas and A Life Once Dreamed. Where the Road Bends followed, then The Letter Tree, a 1920s romance built on a Romeo and Juliet quarrel between two families. The couple have fostered children alongside raising their own.
