Richard Taylor

Richard Taylor (1826-1879) was an American planter, politician, and Confederate general, and the only son of Zachary Taylor, the twelfth U.S. president. Largely self-taught in military affairs, he rose to lieutenant general and served in both the Eastern and Trans-Mississippi theaters of the Civil War. He is remembered chiefly for his 1879 memoir, Destruction and Reconstruction, widely regarded as one of the finest personal narratives of the conflict.
