Robert Munsch
1945
Munsch worked in daycare and told stories to keep children occupied, refining them by repetition for years before writing any down. Love You Forever came out of two stillborn children, and a refrain he had sung to himself became the book; it has sold tens of millions and is given at funerals as often as at baby showers. He has been publicly open about bipolar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder and addiction to alcohol and drugs, disclosing all of it himself in 2010 rather than waiting to be reported on. A stroke in 2008 and later dementia ended his touring. He was born American and became Canadian.
