My Own Words gathers Ginsburg's writing from a school newspaper editorial at thirteen through to her Supreme Court dissents, and it was assembled with Mary Hartnett and Wendy W. Williams, her authorised biographers, who supply the connecting commentary. Before she reached the bench she argued six sex discrimination cases at that court and won five, choosing male plaintiffs on purpose to show that the harm ran in both directions. She sat as a justice for twenty-seven years, and the late dissents were written to be read aloud from the bench. Her decision not to retire while Obama could name a successor is still argued over. She died in 2020.
