Victoria Hislop
Victoria Hislop is a British novelist and short-story writer whose work frequently explores Greece through family memory, political change, landscape, and ordinary community life. After studying English literature at Oxford, she worked in publishing, public relations, and journalism. Her first novel, The Island, grew from a visit to Spinalonga and established the Greek settings that recur across much of her bibliography. The Last Dance and Other Stories gathers ten pieces set among Athens streets and Greek villages. The stories move among siblings, parents, strangers, priests, shopkeepers, and celebrations, often turning on loyalty, separation, reconciliation, or a remembered choice. Her novels include The Thread, The Sunrise, Cartes Postales from Greece, and One August Night, and several books have been adapted for Greek television. The collection shows how her close attention to place can work within a compressed form as well as across a full novel.
