W. Bernard Carlson
Carlson teaches engineering and society in Virginia and wrote the Tesla biography that works from the notebooks and the patents rather than from the legend. His argument is that Tesla thought in images and analogies before mathematics, which explains both the alternating current system and the later projects that went nowhere. The book is deliberately unromantic about the man's finances and his self-promotion. He has edited a multi-volume history of technology and written on Elihu Thomson.
