William Braxton Irvine

Irvine taught philosophy at Wright State University in Ohio and arrived at Stoicism sideways, while researching desire, then decided to live by it rather than only write about it. A Guide to the Good Life lays out the practical machinery, negative visualisation, the dichotomy of control, voluntary discomfort, and is honest that it recommends an ancient system to modern readers who will adapt it as they go. He has since written on insult and on setbacks. He is not a classicist and says so plainly.
